Miss Sarah Addison graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1996. Her basic surgical training was performed in the West Midlands before she moved to East Anglia for a laboratory-based research post looking at colonic calcium signalling.

Moving back to the West Midlands she completed her surgical training in general and colorectal surgery in 2009.

During her registrar training, she was awarded a travelling fellowship to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis USA to study advances in laparoscopic surgery and advanced peritoneal cancer treatment.

On completion of her training, she took up a post as a consultant colorectal surgeon at Walsall Manor Hospital. where she developed a joint pelvic floor clinic with a uro-gynaecologist.

Sarah joined the colorectal department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in 2018 with a specialist interest in pelvic floor and functional bowel disorders. She works closely with the uro-gynacologists at Birmingham Women’s Hospital where they run a multi-disciplinary service for patients with pelvic floor disorders.

Sarah also has an interest in hernia repair as well as colorectal cancer, benign coloproctology and pelvic floor disorders including rectal prolapse, obstructed defecation and slow transit constipation. She is very experienced in the repair of inguinal, umbilical, femoral, Spigelian, ventral and stomal hernias. Ms Addison will be able to assess your hernia to determine the most appropriate method of repair.
